Live analysis at the service of the coach

The analysis done by coaches are increasingly relevant and influential in football. A few days ago the ABC newspaper shared an interesting article with the following title: “Spain’s Big Brother: How Robert Moreno breaks down games live”. The article reveals the interesting analysis system used by the technical staff of the Spanish national team of football with the aim of not missing a single detail of training and matches with their  players.

The necessary tools: A video camera in a place with good perspective, good internet connection via Wi-Fi or cable, a portable computer on the field operated by an analyst, and an analysis program. Nothing from the other world, taking into account that almost any club without being professional can have these tools.

Is this really necessary, and does it make a difference in team performance? What good is all this stuff to the coach? These are some of the questions that may arise when we consider this possible context.

In MBP we firmly believe that especially in the context of high performance football, where teams and matches are increasingly well studied and prepared, the details are what make the difference. With post-match analysis, the coaching staff can draw many conclusions about how the team has developed, and from there make decisions that will affect the next week of competition in terms of game model, training structure and content to be developed , talks with players, reinforced / injured players for the next day, etc.

But there is one thing that can no longer be changed: the result of the match we are analyzing. For that reason, the live analysis using the resources shown by Robert Moreno’s technical staff (already established in many other professional clubs or national teams in different ways) offers us the opportunity to make decisions in live, which can greatly mark the course of a match.

As the coach thinks, in the end the protagonists and those who play are the players. But the coach at the foot of the field is not able to visualize everything that happens in the game, due to excessive stimuli or because of a bad perspective while on the grass. Then a camera with a good analyst in charge of these images, can help a lot to identify relevant information of the game, especially at the collective level and of space management, which can greatly help the coach to intervene in the game for the benefit of his team .

Taking into account the possibilities and advantages that a good live analysis offers us for the performance of a team, the figure of the professional analyst becomes essential. An analyst, that the more prepared he is at the level of formation, experience and knowledge of the game, the more support he will give the coach in the search for success.
